LIFESTYLE, TRAVEL

mesaverde-2

The endless cycle of idea and action,
Endless invention, endless experiment,
Brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness;
Knowledge of speech, but not of silence;
Knowledge of words, and ignorance of the Word . . . .
Where is the Life we have lost in living?

– T.S. Eliot, The Rock

We will be unplugging this weekend to camp in a small part of the Texas wilderness to celebrate our Burke’s ninth year of life. Although we’ve had this planned for months, it now seems hardly the right time–mid-semester, mid-move, mid-everything–or perhaps, it’s exactly the right time. The time for us to pause our endless cycle of ideas and action and invention and talk to remember the beauty of simple and stillness and one another and, of course, the One who is the source of it all. Happy weekend to you all.

  1. Love that quote. Thanks for sharing. I wonder what part of Texas you like to camp in? We are beginning to talk of going camping with the family, we haven’t done it since we’ve had kids, but now that the youngest one is 4 we are ready to brave it, and we live in Texas too!

      We went to Enchanted Rock this weekend and Garner State Park (the Frio River) last Fall. We loved both. I also love Inks Lake and am really hoping to go to Big Bend at some point soon.
